Tuesday | May 5th, 2009
The 2009 APBA Hydro-Turf Watercross National Tour started its very competitive 11 round series on the Colorado River in Parker, Arizona. The Monster Energy Macc Racing Team had a team member entered in each of the premiere Pro Classes held at the event. The racers representing Macc Racing were, Chris MacClugage in Pro Runabout Open and Stock, Rachel MacClugage in Pro Women’s Ski, Kurt Samuels in Pro Ski Stock and Steven Leprohon in Pro Ski GP. The weekend was very competitive with over 180 racers entered; the fans saw full lines of racer and some of the best riders in the world in attendance.
Round 1 in the Pro Women’s ski class saw Macc Racing’s Rachel MacClugage battling with Factory Kawasaki backed Emi Kanamori. Rachel on her Macc Racing prepped Hydrospace S4 put together two very good motos but unfortunately was not enough to take down Kanamori who went 1-1 to take the over all for round 1. The podium finish was 1)Kanamori (1-1), 2) MacClugage (2-2), and 3) Kume (4-3). In the Pro runabout stock class Chris MacClugage took a 1st place in both motos wire to wire on his new Monster Energy Yamaha sponsored FZR. The release of the new FZR from Yamaha, proved to everyone that it is truly the best and most race ready runabout on the market today, winning the stock class in dominating fashion. Saturday’s Pro Run about Stock results were 1) MacClugage (1-1), 2) Greenwald (3-2), 3) Ricky Linder (4-3). In the Pro Ski GP class Macc Racing’s Steven Leprohon entered on his recently built Kawasaki SX-R 800. In moto number one Steven had a strong finish in 3rd place behind Jeff Wright and Rick Sherker. Moto 2 was a different story for Steven, with an unfortunate crash late in the race while entering the back straight it put him back in 8th place and that’s where he would finish taking a 6th over all for the Day. The GP class top three were 1) Wright (2-1), 2) Sherker (1-4) and 3) Flores (5-3)
On Sunday it was team rider Kurt Samuels and Kawasaki’s Minoru Kanamori out front in the Pro Ski Stock class, Kurt on his Yamaha SuperJet finished 2nd behind Kawasaki’s Kanamori with a trail of Hydrospace riders behind them including last years Pro Stock National Champ Ben Swanson. In moto #2 it was Kanamori checking out again with Kurt finishing 3rd and taking a 2nd place over all for the weekend. The Pro Stock Ski class top three was 1) Kanamori (1-1), 2) Samuels (2-3), and 3) Wright (5-4). In the Pro Women’s Ski Class on Sunday Rachel MacClugage had another very strong showing, in moto number one Rachel was hit going into the first corner putting her back in the pack. Rachel was able to fight her way back into 5th and finished (5-2) giving her the 3rd place over all for the weekend. Sundays results were 1) Kanamori (1-1) 2) Kume (2-3) 3) MacClugage (5-3). In the Pro Runabout stock class it was business as usual for Chris MacClugage as he took both motos in dominating fashion, with enough time to stop and wish course marshal Lisa Price Happy Birthday mid race. Chris finished with about a lap lead over second place Snyder and 3rd place Linder. Chris’s Yamaha FZR worked very well for him this weekend, “The power and the handling of the FZR enabled me the have the confidence to win over all of the other manufactures on the line” Chris said after his win in Pro Runabout Stock on Sunday. In the Pro Ski GP class Steven Leprohon was running in 3rd place when he was taken out in a very questionable move by a fellow racer as the two battled entering the front section of the track. Macc Racing support rider Jason Billings had a solid 3rd place finish on Saturday on his Macc Racing Kawasaki SX-R 800 in the Novice Ski Stock class. Congratulations to all of the Macc Racing for there performance in Parker and good luck to them as they move West to race in the 3rd an 4th round of the national tour in Lake Elsinore this weekend.
