Kurt Samuels the US National Champion racing in the novice stock class was able to take home a 4th place in novice stock at the world finals with a 2nd in Moto one and a 4th in Moto 2. Kurt moved up to the Pro Ski stock class later in the week racing along side names like Klippenstien, Fishetti, and Kanamori. Kurt was running in the 6th spot in Moto 1 but crashed on the rough back straight and lost his ski, in Moto 2 Kurt was in 3rd off the start behind Mike Klippenstien and Kevin Reiterer, Kurt ended up finishing in the 5th place position but since crashing in Moto 1 it took Kurt out of contention.
In the Pro Women’s race Rachel MacClugage got the hole shot in the qualifying race and while rounding the first buoy Rachel aggravated her broken nose injury she had suffered recently in practice before the week this would ultimately prevent her from racing in the main event. Rachel and her Macc Racing Yamaha Super Jet was defiantly one of the favorites to win Pro Women but luck was not on her side this week.
In the Pro Ski GP class Moto one Chris MacClugage got a 5th place position off the start and was able to work his way up to 2nd within a few laps. Then on lap 7 while crossing over the double log jumps Chris crashed and fell back to 5th place from there Chris again battled back into 2nd place. Chris was putting a hard charge on leader Mike Klippenstien when suddenly while coming around the horseshoe section of the track Chris hit a wave that knocked him off of his ski and put him in last place taking any chance of a title away from Chris.
In Moto 2 Chris was out to prove a point to everyone that he was the fastest rider in the world, and he proved that with a commanding lead over 2nd place, it was later called that Chris missed a buoy on each lap with many other riders doing the same. The 2008 World Finals did not go exactly how the Macc Racing team would have liked it to go, Chris and Rachel are now heading to Japan to race in the JJSBA Championships good luck Chris!
