2011 UWP/IJSBA National Tour

Bell River, Canada – July 16-17, 2011

Chris Macclugage of Macc Racing made the trip to Belle River, Canada for Round 5 of the UWP Tour and even the G.O.A.T. can have baby hiccups, but being the TRUE CHAMPION he is, Chris fought through the rough race weekend and still came out with 2 great podium finishes. Let’s see how it all unfolded with this latest recap.

Chris, Rachel & LIL MAC Macclugage along with Rusty Gewecke flew on a direct flight from Las Vegas, NV to Detroit, MI that took a mere 3 hrs on Wednesday night. The flight was fairly uneventful as it was another “Red Eye” flight. After being processed through customs, they were on their way across the border into Canadian Territory to Belle River, Canada. The team knew they had some work to do from the last race and with not knowing exactly what to expect with weather and conditions, they needed to be able to get right to work come Thursday morning with testing and tuning the Bullett GP SKI. The engines in the primary ski as well as the backup ski were running great. Rusty had tuned them in very well.

After the Bullett Ski was dialed in it was on to the Macc Racing/Dean's Team/Riva Racing Yamaha FZR. Chris stated ”Dean's boat ran great! He is doing a super job. We have gone to the Macc Racing Sponsons and with ALL of the RIVA parts.” He added “Only drawback is we are at a disadvantage seeing that the Yamaha is 100hp less that the Ultra and 52 less than the Sea-Doo. But with Dean’s knowledge and expertise we have been working to overcome that.” Chris went one to talk a little more about how they have been working to overcome the disadvantage. “When we switched back to the Macc Racing Sponsons it started handling superbly well. The ski has been just as strong as ever when we switched back to the World Finals Prop from 2010.”

Saturday was race day and if Moto 1 was any indication of how the weekend was going to go for Chris, it didn’t look great. In Moto 1 Chris finished with a 3rd place finish as the GP Ski wasn’t handling as well as it should have been and it was very frustrating for Chris as there wasn’t anything he could do or change while on the track. Moto 2 was much of the same with Chris experiencing something he is not used to which is not being in the top 3 and losing the ski twice and then had to settle with a 4th place finish. Going into Moto 3 it was time for survival mode and he knew had to salvage what he could for a podium finish. He was determined NOT to settle for anything less than at least a 2nd place overall finish. He did just that going out in Moto 3 and taking the hole shot and never letting up! Chris finished up the weekend with a 3-4-1 for a 2nd Place overall finish in Pro Ski GP and keeping a firm grasp on the #1 overall points lead. When Chris was asked how it felt to not be up front and winning at least 2 out of 3 Moto’s he replied “It’s a bit frustrating when you know you have the engine and great sponsors backing you but when you’re having handling issues there isn’t much you can do until after the Moto and then sometimes you can only make small changes. This is only a hiccup and we WILL be back for Round 6 with a vengeance!”

The Pro R/A Stock class was a bit of a different story with Chris keeping up his winning ways aboard his Macc Racing/Dean's Team/Riva Racing Yamaha FZR. His starts were on the money every time but it lacked a bit of boost to take the hole shot every time, but Hole shots don’t always win races! Troy Snyder would pull the hole shot but Chris would ride his butt off to pass Troy and would go on to take Moto 1 on Saturday. On Sunday Chris would see Troy pull the hole shot again and have to settle for a 2nd place finish knowing once again what needed to be done for Moto 3. Dean Charrier of Macc Racing/Dean's Team/Riva Racing would go right to work to give Chris a little more power and Moto 3 was ALL Chris as he took the win yet again in Moto 3 to go on to finish with a 1st Place Overall Win with a 1-2-1 finish for the weekend. Chris was asked what the competition was like in Canada in the Pro R/A Stock class and replied “Competition was great in all classes. The course was fun & AJ had some of the more experienced APBA Staff and they kicked ass!” With it being so hot and humid during the weekend, Rachel Macclugage was slowing down a lot with Lil Mac tagging along and on the way. Rachel is going to be a AWESOME mommy and supports Chris in good and bad times at the races. For those that didn’t know there is a new team member on its way to Macc Racing and will arrive in December of this year. Chris and Rachel Macclugage are VERY excited to have this new addition and hopefully will be the NEXT Macclugage World Champion! Chris will also be a AWESOME daddy and we are sure Lil Mac will be spoiled! Hey that’s what it’s all about…Right?

It’s on to Round 6 in Colonial Beach, Virginia. Chris knows that there is work to be done and is already excited and looking forward to the next race knowing that he and the Macc Racing team will bounce back and as said before, WILL BE BACK WITH A VENGEANCE!
