2009 APBA National Tour Rounds 5-6 | Myrtle Beach, SC
Monday | June 8th, 2009
Macc Racing’s Chris MacClugage entered the 5th and 6th round of the APBA National Tour with four 1st place finishes in rounds 1 through 4. Chris was on a mission to carry on that perfect winning record as the tour headed east to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The tour race in Myrtle Beach was very different than the previous rounds because this race was held in very challenging ocean waves. Chris, a surf race veteran, was not intimidated by the huge ocean waves that he was faced with in the Pro Runabout Stock class. Entering the race on his Monster Energy Factory Yamaha FZR, Chris knew that he would be aboard the absolute best runabout on the water.
On Saturday in the Pro Runabout Stock class Chris got off a mid-pack start but in a few short laps was able to put his Monster Energy Yamaha FZR in 1st place, he would remain there for the duration of moto 1. On the start of moto 2 it was all MacClugage from the start taking an effortless hole shot and a wire to wire victory, giving Macc the overall victory for Saturday and round Five. In the Pro Women’s ski class Macc Racing’s Rachel MacClugage who in rounds 1-4 was racing aboard a Hydrospace, entered this round on her Yamaha Super Jet and rode very strong maintaining the momentum she gained from the pervious victory in round 4 over Emi Kanamori. Rachel was victorious in both of her motos on Saturday, taking two wire to wire wins and the overall for the day.
On Sunday in the Pro Runabout Stock class Chris MacClugage did exactly what we have witnessed all season long on the National Tour, by dominating in the Pro Runabout Stock class. Moto 1 proved to everyone that Chris is truly riding on another level than his competition as Chris would go on to win moto one with a huge lead over 2nd place, nearly lapping the entire field. In moto 2 it was another day at the office for Macc as he would win wire to wire and preserve his perfect 6 for 6 winning record this year on the National Tour in the Pro Runabout Stock class.
Chris MacClugage’s main focus of the 2009 season is the Pro Stock class, but for round 6 Chris decided that he would enter into the Pro Runabout Open class aboard a stock class Yamaha FZR. The Yamaha FZR and Chris MacClugage truly showed its incredible capability in the open class as Chris would win moto one over Dustin Farthing and Erminio Iantosca. In moto 2 it was all MacClugage from the start as he was able to capture the holeshot and the victory with nearly ¾ lap lead over 2nd place Iantosca. The Yamaha FZR was hooking up better than any other runabout, showing that it is not only a great flat-water boat but was also outstanding in rough water and surf conditions. Chris said that the FZR was running great with its Motec Ignition the power was incredible from a stock class Runabout.
In the Pro Women’s Ski on Sunday Macc Racing’s Rachel MacClugage’s goal was to sweep the weekend with two back to back National tour stop round victories. Rachel satisfied her goal in outstanding fashion as she would win both moto 1 and moto 2 on her Yamaha Super Jet. The win on Sunday for Rachel puts her at the top of the points ranking for the Pro Women’s Ski class on the 2009 US National Tour and was Rachel’s 3rd consecutive win.Jason Billings of Macc Racing was also in attendance in Myrtle Beach, entering the race on his Kawasaki SX-R. Jason rode very strong both days in the novice ski stock class, the only class that required a qualifying race in order to enter the main. Billings would win his qualifying race on Saturday and end up with a fourth place finish in the main. Macc Racing's Kurt Samuels was also entered in the Pro/Am Ski Stock class on his Yamaha Super Jet. Kurt suffering from the flu days before the race was not feeling 100% for the weekend, Kurt managed to ride strong and pull through the weekend in order to maintain his position in the points race for the National Title.
The Macc Racing Team’s next stop will be in Harbor Beach Michigan as they look to continue there un- stoppable roll they have been on this season at the 2009 Maritime Festival and rounds 7&8 of the US National Tour. Macc Racing would like to thank Monster Energy, Yamaha Motor Corp, R&D Performance Products, Looter Productions, and Motec for all of there support, without them the weekend would not have been possible.
