2009 APBA National Tour Rounds 3-4 | Lake Elsinore, CA

Monday | May 11th, 2009
Following the dominating weekend at rounds 1 and 2 of the APBA National Tour, Macc Racing followed suit by devouring the competition at rounds 3 and 4 in Lake Elsinore CA in a true Macc Racing fashion. Team leader Chris MacClugage set the tone aboard his Pro Stock class Yamaha FZR, taking four wire to wire wins for the weekend, both showing the dominance of his Yamaha and setting an example to be followed by the rest of the team.

On Saturday, In the Pro Women’s ski class it was Emi Kanamori taking the win in moto one over Macc Racing’s Rachel MacClugage. In moto 2 Rachel MacClugage got out to an early lead until on lap 3 Kanamori collided with MacClugage taking Rachel out of the race, and fueling a rivalry for round four on Sunday.

In the Pro Runabout Stock class, Chris MacClugage took and easy victory in moto 1 on his Monster Energy Yamaha FZR. Chris said his boat was running great thanks to the tremendous amount of help from R&D and Bill Chapin. In moto number two Chris got the holeshot by about 3 boat lengths and never looked back as he would take the victory and the overall for the day in the Pro Runabout Stock class.

In the Pro Ski GP class Macc Racing’s Steven Leprohon battled his way to a first place overall finish for round three against some of the best US stand up riders, Steven was able to fight his way through the pack after not getting great starts and come away with the victory.

On Sunday, the Pro women’s ski class was the race that everyone could not wait to see with Emi Kanamori taking the 1st round on Saturday going into Sunday you could see a focus and determination in the eyes of Macc Racing’s Rachel MacClugage. In moto 1 Rachel MacClugage got the hole shot and never looked back taking the moto one victory over current Pro Women’s ski ‘World Champion’ Emi Kanamori. In moto 2 Rachel led the race from start to finish on the long course in Lake Elsinore. Rachel consistently chose the outside split section of course entering the front straightaway of the track and it seemed as if Emi would gain ground on each lap taking the inside split, but in the end it was not enough as Macc Racing’s Rachel MacClugage would go onto win moto 2 and her first overall win in the Pro Women’s ski class. Congratulations to Rachel on her victory, Rachel said that the win would not have been possible without the support of her husband Chris.

In the Pro Ski GP Class Steven Leprohon had to face some new racers who were attempting to play the spoiler in a very close points race for the National title. In moto number one it was factory Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Craig Warner on his Kawasaki SX-R 800 taking the holeshot and the win uncontested by any other rider, Steven Leprohon would come away with the second place spot heading into moto two. In moto 2 it was Steven’s race to win with Craig Warner not entering the second moto Steven had the victory in mind, Steven would lead 17 of 18 laps before crashing his ski coming off the front straightaway. Steven had built up such a lead that he only fell back to second place behind Rick Sherker who would go on to take the moto two victory. The podium for the GP class over all for round four was 1) Leprohon 2) Sheldon 3) Sherker. In the Pro/Am Runabout stock class it was the Yamaha FZR and Chris MacClugage dominating both motos for the top spot on the podium for round number four. The dominance of Yamaha’s FZR has been proven week after week, with a 4-4 winning record; the Yamaha FZR is showing the competition it’s truly the boat to beat in 2009. Macc Racing’s Pro/Am Ski Stock rider Kurt Samuels suffered a left hand injury early in moto 1 and was taken out of contention for the title in round four and looks to the next round in Myrtle Beach to take care of some unfinished business from the round in Lake Elsinore. In the Novice Ski Stock class Jason Billings had electrical problems on Saturday taking any hope for a 1st place finish out of the picture, but on Sunday Jason rode strong and finished with his second podium of the year.

Macc Racing plans to stay consistently on top of the podium for the remainder of the tour, with Chris, Rachel, Steven, Kurt, and Jason all in very good contention for the National Highpoints title. The tour moves the east coast and rounds 5 and 6 off the ocean waves in Myrtle Beach South, Carolina.
